Our Goats

Goats

We breed Standard Nubian and Miniature Nubian goats. Our focus is milk production with strong mamary, conformationally correct with easy going temperaments.

Miniature Nubians are a cross between a standard Nubian and a Nigerian Dwarf. Average size mini Nubian is between 24-30 inches tall to the withers, while a standard Nubian averages between 30-40 inches tall. The milk produced by both breeds is higher in butterfat than other dairy breeds, giving their milk a rich, creamy flavor.

We rarely introduce new stock to the herd, prefering instead to grow our herd through retained offspring. However at times it can be necessary (every 8-10 years at most) to add new genetics by adding a new Nubian or Nigerian Dwarf buck to the mix. We never add Mini Nubians through other Mini breeders. Nothing wrong with other lines, we just don’t do it that way. We’ve worked very hard in selecting good Nubian and Nigerian foundation stock for our mini program. Incorporate stock from other mini breeders into our line is counter productive to our goal that we’ve been chipping away at for more than a decade.

When we need to add a new buck to our program, all purchased goats are tested and confirmed negative for CAE, CL, Johne’s, Brucellosis and Q fever BEFORE being brought to our farm, then quarantined for a minimum of 30 days before being introduced into our herd. We follow up each fall with CAE testing for all breeding does, we do this when we send out blood samples for pregnancy testing. Since kids are usually born in the spring we throw in the extra precaution of feeding only heat treated colostrum and milk for the first 2 weeks.
